Why notes beside ChatGPT are useful
Long AI conversations often contain several layers at once: the conversation itself, decisions you have already made, things to verify, reminders for later, and prompts you may want to reuse. Putting all of that into the chat makes the conversation harder to read. Putting it into a separate document breaks the connection with the chat.
ChatMargin keeps a lightweight note layer beside the conversation instead. The note remains associated with that ChatGPT conversation while you work.
What you can do with ChatMargin notes
- Keep a persistent note attached to an individual ChatGPT conversation.
- Use headings, bold text, lists, checklists, toggles, links and other supported rich-text formatting.
- Create sub-pages when one note becomes too large or needs separate sections.
- Open the same material in a larger Workspace view when the sidebar is too narrow.
- Search ChatMargin note content later from the Search tab.
ChatMargin is not presented as a full backup of ChatGPT transcripts and it does not replace ChatGPT conversation history. It is the working layer you add around the conversation.
A simple workflow
1. Capture while you work
Use the sidebar for quick notes: decisions, unresolved questions, useful facts, next steps or a compact brief for the next session.
2. Structure when the work grows
Split material into sub-pages instead of turning one note into an endless block. This is useful for research, consulting work, product thinking, writing and other multi-step tasks.
3. Expand into Workspace
When you need more room, open the same note in Workspace. The purpose is to keep the convenience of a sidebar without being limited to a narrow sidebar for serious writing.
Are ChatMargin notes private?
ChatMargin uses Chrome extension storage for its notes and related product data. The current product does not require a ChatMargin account or a ChatMargin backend storing your notes. See the Privacy Policy for the full wording.
