Privacy Policy

Short version: ChatMargin is local-first. In the current beta, your notes and prompt drafts are stored locally in your browser. We do not operate a ChatMargin server for your notes, we do not sell user data, and we do not use in-extension analytics.

1. What is ChatMargin?

ChatMargin is an independent browser extension that adds a local sidebar to ChatGPT conversations. It helps users keep notes, draft prompts, and mark conversations for follow-up.

ChatMargin is an independent tool and is not affiliated with OpenAI or ChatGPT.

2. Data stored by the extension

ChatMargin stores the information you enter into the extension locally in your browser extension storage. This may include:

notes attached to a ChatGPT conversation;
prompt drafts created in the Prompts tab;
follow-up status for conversations;
basic local interface state, such as panel size or selected tab.

This data is stored locally on your device through your browser. In the current beta, ChatMargin does not sync this data to a ChatMargin server.

3. ChatGPT page access

ChatMargin runs on ChatGPT pages so it can display the sidebar and attach local notes to the current conversation. The extension may read page information needed to identify the current conversation, such as the page URL, conversation context, or visible conversation title. This is used to associate your local notes with the right conversation.

ChatMargin does not send your ChatGPT conversations or notes to a ChatMargin server in the current beta.

4. Feedback by email

If you choose to contact us by email, we will receive the information you decide to send, such as your message, email address, bug report, feature request, screenshots, or other context. This feedback is used to improve ChatMargin and respond to you.

5. Voluntary contributions and third-party payment providers

ChatMargin may link to a voluntary contribution page, such as Buy Me a Coffee. Contributions are optional and are used to support ongoing product development. They are voluntary creator contributions and do not unlock paid features in the current beta.

If you choose to support ChatMargin, the payment is handled by the third-party provider. ChatMargin does not process your payment card details directly. Please review the privacy policy and terms of the relevant payment provider before making a payment.

6. Analytics

In the current beta, ChatMargin does not use in-extension analytics and does not track how you use the extension inside ChatGPT.

The Chrome Web Store may provide aggregated listing metrics to the publisher, such as installations, impressions, ratings, or uninstall information. These are provided by the Chrome Web Store platform.

7. Data sharing and sale

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your notes or prompt drafts with third parties. If this changes in a future version, this policy will be updated before such changes are introduced.

8. Data deletion

You can delete notes and prompt drafts inside the extension. You can also remove ChatMargin from your browser. Browser-level deletion, extension removal, or clearing extension storage may delete locally stored ChatMargin data.

We may update this Privacy Policy as ChatMargin evolves. The latest version will be available on this page.
